What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a UK Government initiative designed to help homeowners switch from fossil fuel heating (like gas, oil or LPG) or electric heating to low-carbon systems such as air source heat pumps.
If you qualify, you’ll receive up to £9,000 grant toward the installation applied upfront, so you don’t need to claim it back later. We handle the whole process for you, from checking eligibility to submitting the application.

I have no hesitation in continuing to use Princes, or to recommend them to others.

How Does an Air Source Heat Pump Work?
Think of it as a reverse fridge. Instead of removing heat, it brings it in. Using a small amount of electricity, an air source heat pump transfers natural heat from the outside air into your home to warm your radiators, underfloor heating, and hot water.

FAQ
Am I eligible for a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant of up to £9,000?
You could be if you own your property and are replacing a fossil fuel boiler (gas, oil, or LPG) or electric heating. Our team will check your eligibility for free and handle the full application on your behalf.
Do I require an EPC?
To qualify for the £7,500 BUS grant, an in-date Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) must be submitted showing an eligible heating system in the property. If you don’t have an EPC, don’t worry, we can carry this out for you.
I’m building a new property, am I eligible for the BUS?
If your property is classed as a self-build or custom build, such as a barn or chapel conversion, you may still be eligible for the grant. The application is slightly more involved, but we’ll manage it for you. We’ve helped many self-builders successfully claim a grant of up to £9,000.
Do you carry out the whole installation, including radiators and underfloor heating?
Yes, we carry out everything in-house, including plumbing, electrics, radiators, underfloor heating, bathrooms, MVHR, Solar PV and battery storage, using our own fully qualified engineers.
Do you also install Solar PV and battery storage?
Yes, we do. Princes LHS Ltd has been installing MCS-accredited Solar PV systems since 2011. We are approved installers of both Tesla Powerwall and GivEnergy battery systems.
Is it noisy?
No, modern heat pumps are quiet, typically running at around 40–50 decibels, which is similar to a fridge.
How efficient are air source heat pumps?
Very. For every unit of electricity used, a heat pump can generate up to 3–4 times more in heat. That’s up to 400% efficiency compared to around 85% for a typical gas boiler.
Will a heat pump work in winter?
Yes, heat pumps are designed to perform efficiently even in low temperatures, including below freezing. We only install systems suited to the UK climate.
Can I use a heat pump with my existing radiators?
In many cases, yes. If any upgrades are required, we’ll let you know during your free home survey and include this in your quote.
Is planning permission required?
Usually not. Most installations fall under permitted development rights. If permission is needed, we’ll advise and assist.
How long does a heat pump last?
Air source heat pumps typically last 15–20 years with regular servicing, often longer than many gas boilers.
What kind of maintenance is needed?
Minimal. We recommend a service every 1–2 years to keep your system running at its best. We also offer ongoing support and service plans for peace of mind.
